This is an online archive of the Independent Modeling model career resource web site. Independent Modeling is published in Tampa Bay, Florida. This web site archive is provided for reference purposes and is available free of charge to any professional model. For a new and regularly updated version, please check out Independent Modeling.

Independent Modeling (for models, photographers, and the companies who book them), Independent Acting (for actors covering acting, theater, and indy film), Independent Performer (for talent and production professionals), and the TALON Talent Online contact reference database (for talent, production professionals, and businesses, the database is built up from what used to be known as Independent Modeling's Professional Model Bureau for model references, or PMB) are all organized under the IndependentModeling.Com domain name and are accessible through the main domain of IndependentModeling.Com for the Independent Site Network (Also knows as the Independent Sites). Some features and content that exist in the Independent Modeling archives have been discontinued in the new version, primarily for conflict of interest reasons, as the new site also promotes professional models. Some features, such as Tampa model scam database information with new information on Tampa model scams, have been licensed to ally site Tampa Bay Modeling a have been improved a generation or more. You can find advanced versions of our discontinued content and tools on the Tampa Bay Modeling web site by checking out Tampa Bay Modeling. The Tampa Bay Modeling regional model resource web site is also a free resource for professional models. Former Independent Modeling staffer and professional model Monica Stevens is continuing her modeling mail bag series, which is now in a new format which is much more professionally refined and useful, on the Tampa Bay Modeling web site. Monica Stevens is now on their staff, and you can check out her new Tampa Model Mail Bag, published monthly for professional models. For new modeling editorials from professional models, Tampa Bay Modeling has those, too, and you can check out their Tampa Model Opinion section. Tampa Bay Modeling covers each Tampa model agency, Tampa model and talent agencies who are SAG franchised talent agencies. Tampa Bay Modeling, like Independent Modeling, is not a Tampa model agency or a model agency at all, and is a source of Tampa model information and Tampa model help. Tampa Bay Modeling is also a great source of information regarding fair Tampa model rates for Tampa photography rates and Tampa model job rates. The Tampa Bay Modeling site contains information on Tampa model portfolio photographers and Tampa photography services, too.

Tampa Bay Independent Model

Tampa Bay Independent Model was created in the summer of 2001, when a group of models, photographers, and ex agents decided to team up and teach independent models how to make their career happen. Over ten bay area models, experienced and successful with promoting themselves and landing choice jobs without an agency, discussed their marketing secrets with the photographers that they routinely worked with to expand their portfolios.

The conclusion of multiple collaborations and discussions over a two year period came to one point: the modeling industry in Florida was a mess. Despite a few rare gems, like the useful and respected Florida-Models.Com, there just wasn't a whole lot out there that really helped out models, especially if they didn't have an agency. A lot of modeling sites, too, were little more than glorified job boards, with very little original or useful content.

A lot of models wanted to be independent. Besides the 20% commission that they would save on client contracts, it just wasn't in their best interest to exclusively sign with one agency. The limitations of the local market would be further constrained, and they wouldn't make enough to expand their careers. Some models realized that they could have their proverbial cake and eat it too, accepting representation with several agencies as well as promoting themselves. After a while, though, those models realized that the majority of their work came from their own promotional efforts, rather than the efforts of an agent. With the Internet available all over the world, the monopolies of the agencies were no longer as fruitful as they used to be. The power was clearly in the models court, as well as the possibilities. Now, we're not saying that agencies should be avoided. Reputable agencies can be useful, as long as they are kept in their rightful place as a tool for the independent model. A handful of agencies, maintained in a non exclusive relationship, are a useful asset in the toolkit of the independent model. They just aren't as important as they used to be.

That's why we created Tampa Bay Independent Model. It's our way of helping the state of the industry by teaching self promotion to the models of the world. Knowledge is power, and once you know of the potential that promoting yourself has, you'll wonder why you accepted less before. The truth, in essence, will set you free.

A revolution is here, and that revolution is Independence.
